PROJECT OVERVIEW
A stunning Grade II listed property designed by the eminent Victorian Architect Henry Woodyer. Although the house includes original impressive carved fireplaces, decorative wood and plaster mouldings, paneled walls and shutters some updating was required. It was important that these changes were empathetic to the surroundings and the present house.
These included:
- The installation of an elegant ensuite bathroom and dressing room using the finest materials through collaborative design. The space was carefully reconfigured by adjusting the door entrance position and reusing the architecturally important door set along with the strengthening of the floor which had been largely untouched for decades. The layout was carefully plotted to incorporate the client’s joinery and sanitaryware.
- The installation of a high-class elliptical oak staircase sensitive to the existing structure and character of the building.
- The Kitchen space has been created by removing a previously added partition wall to give the balance of space befitting the property. The design layout was challenged by the staircase requirements and a lot of thought resulted in a beautifully crafted end product.
EXTERNAL WORKS
The creation of a double covered open carport with an enclosed single garage using reclaimed oak from a salvaged French farm building to form the structure, utilising craftsmen with the appropriate skills to enhance the authenticity of the end result.
The masonry element of the garage displays direct from source Belgian small gauge bricks installed using lime mortar. The theme of lime continued with the garage in traditional lime rendered walls blending and complimenting the oak frame.
A new approach driveway from the boundary to the house comprising of traditional locally sourced stone apathetic to the house masonry, automated wrought iron gates. The use of large granite sets sourced from Belgium formed the Bellmouth and drive perimeter and garage area.
